Free Adult Flu Vaccine Clinic to Keep Champaign Healthy

CHAMPAIGN, ILLINOIS — Promise Healthcare, in partnership with the Illinois Academy of Family Physicians (IAFP), invites the media and the public to a free vaccine clinic for adults. The event will offer the influenza vaccine and provide reliable information on all adult vaccines from IAFP President Dr. Corinne Kohler, who is a member of the Illinois Immunization Advisory Committee.

The Event will be held at the Frances Nelson Clinic, 819 Bloomington Road, in Champaign on Saturday, October 3 from 10 am - 2 pm.

Age, chronic conditions and social determinants of health increase adults' risk of complications caused by vaccine-preventable diseases. Last year only 26 percent of Illinoisans received their flu shot and the goal for this season is 70 percent. Keeping up with which vaccines you need when you’re an adult isn’t as clearly laid out as it is for newborns and children in school.

For most adults: every year you need a flu vaccine in the fall and a Covid vaccine because flu and Covid viruses evolve. Both are recommended for pregnant people, too.

If you’re pregnant: you’ll also need a Tdap vaccine during pregnancy and the RSV vaccine during certain weeks of your pregnancy.

When you reach a certain age: you need the shingles vaccine (two shots) at 50, and one pneumococcal vaccine. RSV is recommended at age 75.

This vaccine event is supported by funds received from the Office of Health Protection and Response, through the Illinois Department of Public Health.
