School-Based Health Centers

School-Based Health Centers

School-based health centers (SBHCs) are facilities that provide primary health care services to students in grades K-12. A school-based health center can be located in or near a school campus and can serve not only students but the surrounding community as well. SBHCs are sponsored by hospital systems or healthcare organizations (like Promise Healthcare) to provide multi-disciplinary services at an affordable cost.

Beyond offering quality healthcare to students and the community at an affordable price, school-based health centers have been shown to provide numerous other educational benefits to school-age children and teens. SBHCs have been associated with increased grade promotion, reduced recidivism, reduced suspension rate, and higher grade-point averages.

Promise Healthcare has partnered with the Champaign Unit 4 school district to implement a new school-based health center, which is set to open in May 2025. We are excited to provide world-class care to the Champaign Unit 4 community. We could not be more pleased that the school district has partnered with us to make this a reality.
